Trazimera is a targeted oncology product that contains trastuzumab, a monoclonal antibody engineered to recognise and bind to the human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2), a protein found at high levels on the surface of certain cancer cells. This binding helps interfere with HER2 signalling, which normally promotes rapid cell growth and division in these cancers, and engages the immune system to help eliminate affected cells.
Trazimera is classified as a biosimilar — a highly similar version of an earlier biologic therapy (Herceptin) with matching structure, purity and biological activity. Biosimilars undergo rigorous evaluation to demonstrate comparable clinical performance as the reference biologic.
It supports care in adults whose tumours overexpress HER2, which is seen in a subset of breast and gastric cancers. In early breast cancer, Trazimera can be part of combined regimens before and after surgery, or alone when other approaches are not suitable. In advanced (metastatic) breast or gastric cancers, it may be used with other oncology agents or on its own when other treatments have been used.
Trastuzumab’s dual action — directly blocking growth signalling and helping immune‑mediated destruction of tumour cells — makes it a cornerstone in HER2‑targeted therapy.
Because it is delivered into the bloodstream through infusion, monitoring during and after administration is standard practice. Immune system engagement and cellular stress on cancer cells can sometimes lead to responses such as infusion‑related discomfort, fatigue or changes in heart function, so careful observation is part of care.
When integrated with comprehensive oncology support strategies — including diagnostic testing for HER2 status, imaging and multidisciplinary care planning — Trazimera offers a precise approach for HER2‑associated cancers, helping improve treatment outcomes in many settings.
