Ziagen

Ziagen (abacavir) is an antiretroviral therapy developed for the management of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) infection. Pharmacogenetic screening for the HLA-B*5701 allele is recommended before initiation to minimise the risk of hypersensitivity reactions, reflecting the integration of personalised medicine principles into routine HIV care.
